“Keith Haring: Against All Odds” Comes to DFW
Works by the iconic modern artist will be exhibited exclusively at the Arlington Museum of Art
Arlington, TX (April 16, 2019) – The “visual language” of iconic artist Keith Haring is expected to enter the active conversations about political and societal subjects among many of the diverse populations in North Central Texas when the Arlington Museum of Art opens the “Keith Haring: Against All Odds” June 21. The show will continue through Sept. 15, 2019.
“Haring’s art explores universal concepts in ways that are uniquely accessible,” said Aldo Fritz, executive director of the 29-year-old museum noted for its powerful exhibitions that stimulate discussions about real-life experiences. “The themes represented in his work are just as relevant today as they were in the 1980s when his reputation went global.”
Together more than 50 original works serve to deconstruct the traditional view of Haring as an artist. Beyond his well-known graphic iconography, the exhibition also explores his use of mark-making as a metaphor and his desire to address weighty subjects such as consumerism, poverty, religious dogma, violence, racism and AIDS.
In 1988, Haring was diagnosed with AIDS and in the remaining two years of his life, he established the Keith Haring Foundation which provides funding and imagery to AIDS awareness programs and organizations that work with children.
The Haring exhibit is a continuation of AMA’s commitment to bringing renowned artists to North Central Texas, including works by Vivian Maier, Ansel Adams, Toulouse Lautrec, Rembrandt, Pablo Picasso, Frank Lloyd Wright, and Milton Greene.
“By bringing powerful exhibitions like these to Arlington and North Central Texas,” Fritz continued, “we hope to encourage discussion, celebrate the power of self-discovery through art, and reveal the inherent connections between us.”
Advance tickets may be purchased through the museum’s website, arlingtonmuseum.org. Sponsorship opportunities for the exhibition are still available. Inquiries should be directed to 817-275-4600 or info@arlingtonmuseum.org.
