VAL May Members’ Meeting, Calls for Art & News

A Note from the VAL President
Hello Artists! I hope everyone is well and staying safe. I want you all to know that the MCL Grand is scheduled to reopen Monday, May 11, to staff.  Even though our area is starting the reopening process, VAL will both take advantage of this and also take all necessary precautions for our members’ health. We have upcoming hallway and gallery shows on our schedule which will proceed as scheduled. We will however observe social distancing and the wearing of masks and gloves.  Our board will be meeting on May 11 at 7 p.m. and will be following these precautions. The same with intakes. Be looking for emails regarding what will be the precaution rules as determined by the board.
Thank you and I miss you all! Diane Wright VAL President dmwright75028@gmail.com

May Members Meeting

ArtPrize – Turning a City into an Art Gallery7 p.m. • May 12 • Online Meeting
Our May members’ meeting will be a virtual meeting via ZOOM. VAL’s President, Diane Wright, will do a presentation on Artprize, a massive art competition that turns the whole city of Grand Rapids, MI (where Diane is from) into one big art gallery. The story behind it is very interesting and you will be amazed at the art that has appeared in this biannual event. Not to be missed!!! Be watching for an email blast from VAL with the link to this meeting. You can learn about Artprize at artprize.org.

Sharing Art from Isolation

Work in progress by Jim Connell; 23″ x 30″; acrylic on Arches paper
With so many art shows and galleries being closed for now (including the MCL Grand), VAL wants to provide ways to stay connected and offer inspiration for our “sheltered in place” artists! Much of the art is currently featured on the VAL homepage.

We’ll show more of our members’ works in our News & Notes email later this week.
